Dr. Holli Temple

Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice

Dr. Holli Temple is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Pharmacy Practice Division of The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Temple practiced hospital pharmacy for 16 years before joining the UT Austin College of Pharmacy faculty in 2011. She integrates her enthusiasm for institutional practice and medication safety into the Basic Intravenous Admixtures course and associated sterile compounding laboratory, which she coordinates. In these courses, students develop technical aseptic compounding skills, apply state and federal sterile compounding standards to real-world scenarios, and utilize drug information resources to ensure the accuracy and safety of compounded preparations.

Dr. Temple also teaches in the Foundations of Patient-Centered Care (FPCC) course and coordinates the Care and Respect for Elders (CARE) Program, the service-learning component of FPCC. The CARE Program partners first-year pharmacy students with older adults in elder care facilities. Through this experience, students provide companionship, strengthen communication skills, develop empathy, and explore older adults’ chronic medical conditions and medication regimens within real-life contexts.

Additionally, Dr. Temple facilitates an interprofessional team in the Foundations for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice course and serves as Project Faculty for third-year pharmacy students completing population health projects in collaboration with community mentors. She also co-coordinates the Institutional Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (I-IPPE), a three-week hospital-based immersion designed to introduce students to institutional pharmacy practice.

Dr. Temple’s research focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning, with an emphasis on strengthening student confidence, competence, and comfort in caring for older adults, performing sterile compounding and aseptic technique, and transitioning into experiential practice settings.

In her free time, Holli enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, hiking, and snow-skiing.
