Ryan Named Educator of the Year

Dr. Laurajo Ryan, clinical associate professor of pharmacotherapy, is recipient of the College of Pharmacy’s Educator of the Year award.  Ryan was named to receive the honor at the recent, student-coordinated spring social.

Ryan practices in the area of adult internal medicine, primarily in the acute treatment of the hospitalized patient.  Her principal interests include diabetes, nutrition and cirrhosis.

Other faculty honored at the event include, Dr. Bill Williams, professor of pharmaceutics, recipient of the first year (P1) teaching honor; Mr. Jim Koeller, professor of pharmacotherapy, recipient of the second year (P2) teaching honor; and Dr. Chris Frei, associate professor and division head of pharmacotherapy, recipient of the third year (P3) teaching honor.

Young Cheun was named teaching assistant winner.  Cheun is a graduate student in medicinal chemistry and works in the lab of Dr. Seongmin Lee.

Steven Jones was named recipient of the award presented to the outstanding preceptor in the college’s Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE). Jones is a pharmacist with Walgreens in Austin. He is a preceptor for the Community IPPE since the program’s inception in 2011 and also serves as a preceptor for the Over-the-Counter IPPE.

Students also presented several awards to their peers.

Award for most involved went to Chris Medlin, Marilyn Mootz, and Joseph Nguyen while Mo Abotteen was named Rookie of the Year.

Most likely to succeed honors went to Chib Amuneke-Nze, Bobby Lamontagne, and Joel Moore while most helpful winners included Qasim Adil, Sarah Hallowell, Stefan Allen.

Congeniality awards were presented to a member of each class.  Winners included Ralph Galega and Baneen Noorali, P1 Class; Michael Kent and Esli Tebedge, P2 Class; and Jayme Johnston and Mikaela Farrell, P3 Class.

College spirit winners included Tori Vaughan, Lilian Tran and Minhngan Le.

Other student awards included most athletic to Josh Maldonado, Scott Jermain, and Anne Jones; class clown to Autumn Lee, Matt Davis and Isaac Miller; best dressed to Jordan Meckel, Ellie Littlefield and Jullian Blackwell; best eyes to Tori Tackett, Beau Faulkner and Zack Enright; and best smile to Samir Yusuf, Amanda Kitten and Marie Tillema.
