To encourage the faculty mentoring process, The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy recently established the Faculty Mentoring Award. Faculty mentoring is seen as a way of passing the experience and success of seasoned faculty members to faculty who need guidance in their careers. The college feels strongly that faculty members can benefit from mentoring at all stages of their career and therefore encourages mentorship for all faculty.

Dr. Christopher R. Frei won this year’s inaugural Faculty Mentoring Award.

Christopher Frei, Pharm.D., M.Sc. is the head of the Division of Pharmacotherapy; one of five divisions in the College of Pharmacy, and the only division located outside of Austin, in San Antonio. He is also the Director of the Pharmacotherapy Education and Research Center in the School of Medicine at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio. On June 1, 2015 he became the Program Director for the multidisciplinary joint Translational Science Ph.D. Program, involving four UT institutions in the Austin and San Antonio areas. The program recruits physicians, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, and others with professional doctoral degrees and trains them to conduct innovative Clinical and Translational Research.

In his letter of support, Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Kirk Evoy said that Dr. Frei “has invested a great deal of time into ensuring my academic success, and I know he has done the same for many other Pharm.D. candidates, graduate students, tenure track, clinical track, and even physician faculty.”

Dean M. Lynn Crismon presented Dr. Frei with the award on January 14, 2020 during the annual College of Pharmacy faculty retreat.
