With great excitement, the Innovating for Health (i4Health) Institute announces the recognition of Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer and
University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy Clinical Professor of Molecular Pharmaceutics Janet Walkow, Ph.D. as one of Austin Woman magazine’s 2025 Change Makers! In its second year, the Change Makers List highlights women and femme-identifying individuals who are changing and elevating Austin’s social impact and business community. Walkow earned a place among female Austinites recognized as Talent Transformers, one of 12 categories featured in the 2025 Change Makers List.
Distinguished as an educator dedicated to giving others the tools they need to better themselves, Walkow joined The University of Texas in 2008 as Clinical Professor of Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, building on a successful pharmaceutical industry career, heading efforts ranging from research and development and human resources to global corporate strategy. Walkow presents novel approaches and solutions in her course work and mentorship that promote development of health technologies, facilitate bioscience startups, and cultivate interdisciplinary technology and workforce readiness.
"I am honored to be included in this remarkable group of female leaders," says Walkow. "At i4Health, we employ a unique approach to the innovation process, allowing participants to immerse themselves in hands-on projects. This dynamic thinking model brings educational tools to the forefront of academia and industry, empowering learners at every career stage to positively impact health care globally."
Walkow leads experiential programs for developing leadership, collaboration and problem-solving skills essential for innovators and pharmaceutical careers. Her successful edX massive open online course (MOOC), "Take Your Medicine," has enrolled tens of thousands of students, who explore how new drug therapies are developed.
Founder of the i4Health Institute and multiple courses, Walkow has established a certificate program and 16 microcredential badges that empower participants - students, innovators and workers - to be Industry 4.0 ready. She was named a University Fellow of the OpEd Project in 2021 and has been named a University of Texas Gamechanger.
"Janet Walkow is a tremendous asset to the College of Pharmacy," says Dean Samuel M. Poloyac, Pharm.D., Ph.D., FCCM. "Her presence in the classroom is dynamic and inspires students to reconsider the tools, processes and protocols needed to develop the best solutions. Her approaches to equip our students with the critical thinking and problem solving for health innovation are renowned and impactful for their career success."
