Academic Detailer, Pharmacy Addictions Research & Medicine Program
Sara Young is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) serving as an Academic Detailer for The University of Texas at Austin. She holds a master's degree in health psychology from Texas State University.
For fifteen years, Sara has worked as a case manager, psychotherapist, and clinical program manager with people facing substance use, mental health, and trauma challenges across residential SUD treatment, community outpatient clinics, and private practice. In 2017, she helped launch the first office-based opioid treatment (OBOT model) clinic offering buprenorphine specifically to under- and uninsured Travis County residents through a collaboration among several local organizations. Sara spent eight years as part of a multidisciplinary team that provided leadership in the expansion of those services into two clinics providing holistic, harm reduction-based addiction medicine care.
Sara brings lived experience with opioid use disorder to her work, driving her commitment to reducing stigma around medications for OUD, expanding dignity and respect for all people who may struggle with alcohol or substance use, and for all paths to recovery (or not).
