The nation's pharmacy schools completed their 2026 Phase I and Phase II Postgraduate Year One residency matches for recent graduates of their Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) programs. The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy again exceeded last year's residency match rate, highlighting the continued strength of its academic, clinical and professional training programs.

According to the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) 2026 Pharmacy Residency Match results, 94% of Texas Pharmacy's graduates successfully matched to residency positions. This match rate is the highest among colleges of pharmacy in the state of Texas and ranks among the highest nationally when compared with peer Research I (R1) institutions.

"Our continued success in the ASHP residency match, leading the state of Texas and ranking among the top R1 institutions nationally, demonstrates the exceptional strength and national competitiveness of our Pharm.D. program," said Dr. Diane B. Ginsburg, Associate Dean for Healthcare Partnerships. "Our graduates enter the profession with a national reputation for excellence and are consistently sought after by residency programs across the country."

The UT Austin College of Pharmacy, in partnership with facilities throughout Texas and beyond, offers a wide range of exceptional Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) and Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) residency programs, including Pharmacy Practice, Community-based Practice, Ambulatory Care, Internal Medicine and many more. These residency programs provide advanced education and hands on clinical experience that strengthen career readiness and long term professional success.

Residency match rates are one of several of educational quality and the comprehensive support systems available to students. Historically, the College of Pharmacy's overall career placement rate, which includes residencies and other professional pathways, averages 97%. While many UT Austin Pharm.D. graduates pursue residency training, others choose alternative career paths aligned with their professional goals.

"Our graduates go on to pursue their careers as pharmacists in our communities, ambulatory care, hospital, industry and many other settings. Others enter the next stage as residents, fellows, masters and in Ph.D. training," says Dr. Samuel M. Poloyac, Texas Pharmacy dean and James T. Doluisio Regents Chair. "No matter which path they choose, our graduates are the next generation of pharmacy leaders and medication experts with the skills to change Texas and the world."
