
The College of Pharmacy is proud to announce that W. Renee' Acosta, R.Ph., M.S., Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice, has been named the recipient of this year's Faculty Mentoring Award.
Faculty mentoring plays a vital role in academic success, allowing experienced faculty to share their knowledge and guidance with colleagues at all stages of their careers. The College strongly supports a culture of mentorship across its faculty community, recognizing the value it brings to professional development and institutional growth.
As this year's award recipient, Dean Acosta will receive a one-year $5,000 salary supplement and $2,500 in discretionary funds from the Revco Endowed Faculty Fellowship, along with a commemorative item honoring her achievement.
Dean Acosta has a longstanding commitment to mentoring College of Pharmacy faculty, supporting their growth in both teaching and administrative roles. She is passionate about helping faculty develop their instructional skills, refine pedagogical techniques and empower their professional success.
One faculty nominee reflected on her mentorship, saying, "Renee's impact on faculty mentorship is profound. She not only guides faculty through the complexities of teaching and curriculum design but also engages in regular peer observations to promote best practices." Another added, "Renee' embodies the spirit of mentorship, consistently elevating the professional development of others while enhancing college operations. Her unwavering commitment, insightful guidance and steadfast support make her an ideal candidate for the Faculty Mentoring Award."
Beyond the College of Pharmacy, Dean Acosta also serves as a Provost Teaching Fellow, mentoring educators across the university campus.
Dean Acosta began her tenure at the College of Pharmacy in 2003 as a clinical assistant professor, contributing as an alternate facilitator for the pharmacotherapeutics lab and guest lecturer for hospital pharmacy. In 2005, she transitioned to a full-time faculty position in pharmacy practice. She later served as Assistant Dean of Admissions and Advising (2015–2017), coordinating recruiting, admissions and advising activities. Since 2017, she has held the role of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, providing leadership for the Pharm.D. program. Her professional interests include over-the-counter products, student assessment and success and innovative teaching methods.
