Event Details
- P1 Internship Interview Day will take place virtually on the 12Twenty@Texas platform. Students can log in day-of from wherever they are located on that day.
- Employers will be available virtually for 30-minute interview time slots. You will only interview with employers that you signed up for ahead of time.
- Some employers allow students to sign up for interview slots on a first come, first served basis, which is called self-select. Others will require students to submit an application ahead of time; only those students whom the employer selects will be allowed to sign up for an interview slot with them, which is called pre-select.

Ascension Seton Hays
Program Objectives:
The Ascension Seton Hays Pharmacist Internship Program is designed to expose Pharmacist Interns to all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. The goal is to provide a competitive advantage to those students interested in pursuing pharmacy residency or a career in hospital pharmacy practice as well as increase student understanding of drug therapy management in the hospital setting. Participants in the program may also have opportunities to participate in research, clinical projects (for example medication use evaluations), and quality improvement projects depending on student interest and departmental needs.
Candidates:
The Ascension Seton Hays Pharmacist Internship program is open to highly motivated pharmacy students who have completed at least one year of the pharmacy curriculum and are licensed in the state of Texas as a Pharmacist Intern.
Selection Process:
Interviews are conducted through The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy interview day. Two (2) intern positions are available.
Time Commitment and Expectations:
This internship will provide an immersive hospital pharmacy experience during the course of the student’s remaining pharmacy school education. During the initial 4 weeks (typically the month of June), interns will be expected to train/staff a minimum of 24 hours per week (x3 8-hr shifts). Thereafter, interns will be expected to staff every 3rd weekend on a rotating schedule plus the equivalent of one major holiday and one minor holiday. If desired and available, interns may staff additional hours during holiday breaks if staffing support is needed.
Compensation:
Effective summer 2024, pharmacist interns will be hired as PRN technician staff and will be compensated according to a predetermined hourly rate for this job code.
Location:
Ascension Seton Hays Hospital located at 6001 Kyle Parkway, Kyle, TX 78640.
Shift Times and Other Experiences:
- Technician staffing
- Day shift technician (CA) - 0630-1500
- Evening technicians (CE) - 1430-2300
- Technician shadowing (if time permits)
- IV technician (IVA, IVE)
- Inventory technician (INV)
- Pharmacist shadowing (if time permits)
- Clinical pharmacists providing patient care on a decentralized unit (D2, D3, etc.)
- Order verification, patient medication education (specifically focusing on discharging patients and heart failure patients), pharmacokinetic drug monitoring, anticoagulation monitoring, as well as other clinical and operational tasks as needed.
- Multidisciplinary rounds
- Interactions between physicians, charge nurses and social workers, etc.
- Central pharmacists overseeing distribution and operations (C, MC, EVE)
- Responsible for checking IV preparations, packaged medications, unit dose medications, sending missing doses/requested medications. Verifies orders for the emergency department, mother/baby unit, NICU, covers lunches, breaks, & rounds for floor pharmacists. Operational responsibilities for hospital and clinical responsibilities for units covered.
- Shadowing with pharmacy director and/or PTOS (if time permits)

Pharmacy Student Internship (Texas)
Job Summary:
A Pharmacy Student Intern is responsible for learning all operations of the pharmacy including filling prescriptions and learning to supervise all other members of the department in order to sell both prescribed and over the counter drugs. The Pharmacy Student Intern works under the direct supervision of a pharmacy preceptor to aid and assist in the delivery of pharmacy services to the public.
