White Coat Ceremony 2026

Saturday, August 22, 2026, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM, Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium, The University of Texas at Austin

Event Overview and Schedule

The College of Pharmacy annually holds the White Coat Ceremony before the start of the fall semester. This is an entrance ceremony for the college’s new Pharm.D. students during which they receive the white coat they will wear during their time in pharmacy school.

On this same day, the college will host the Parent and Family Orientation just before the White Coat Ceremony begins. This 1-hour information session, led by our Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, will be for the families of Pharm.D. students.  We will provide an overview of the Pharm.D. curriculum and what students can expect over the next four years. Ideas on how to best support Pharm.D. students during their time in pharmacy school will be shared with attendees.

*Up to 2 guests per student are allowed to attend the Parent and Family Orientation

Schedule for Saturday, August 22:

  • Student report time: 8:30 – 9:00 AM
  • Parent and Family Orientation: 9:00 – 10:00 AM
  • LBJ Auditorium doors open: 10:00 AM
  • Ceremony: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

White Coat Ceremony Details

Location

The White Coat Ceremony will take place in the Lady Bird Johnson (LBJ) Auditorium on-campus.

The Parent and Family Orientation will take place in the Bass Lecture Hall on-campus.

*Note: the Bass Lecture Hall should not be confused with the Bass Concert Hall, also on-campus. The Bass Lecture Hall is located in the same building as the LBJ Auditorium where the ceremony will take place.

The address for the LBJ Auditorium and the Bass Lecture Hall is 2313 Red River St, Austin, TX 78712. However, please refer to the Parking section on this page for driving directions to the venue and exact instructions for where to park that day. A map displaying key locations and instructions can be accessed here.

Parking

Students and guests should park in Lot 40, a campus parking lot located by the ceremony venue (at the corner of Red River Street and East Dean Keeton Street). Parking in Lot 40 will be free of charge on the day of the ceremony. The best way to locate Lot 40 is to type “UT Lot 40” in your maps app, and driving directions to the lot will populate.

If Lot 40 fills up, guests are directed to park in Manor Garage, the closest on-campus parking garage to the ceremony venue. Parking in Manor Garage is subject to the garage daily parking rates. The College will not cover parking fees in Manor Garage.

Please do not park in Lot 37, Lot 38, or Lot 39 at the risk of being ticketed or having your car towed by the University.

Attire

Students should wear an appropriate outfit, preferably business casual attire, to the ceremony.

For safety/comfort reasons, please be mindful of the shoes you plan to wear for the ceremony. It is recommended that students not wear overly high heels or flip flops for the ceremony.

Guest Count

Due to venue capacity, each student is allowed to bring up to 6 guests to the ceremony, not including themselves. Infants/young children who do not require their own seat do not count toward the guest limit. Personal cloakers count toward the guest limit. If you need to request additional guests, please send your request to phr.studentaffairs@austin.utexas.edu. Requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Personal Cloakers

By default, students will be cloaked by faculty on-stage during the ceremony. Alternatively, if a student would rather have a personal cloaker cloak them during the ceremony, they must notify the Office of Student Affairs. Personal cloakers can be a family member or a mentor, however, they must have a pharmacist license. Personal cloakers must wear their white coat on-stage. Personal cloakers count toward a student’s 6-guest limit.

If you need to update your personal cloaker information, please inform the Office of Student Affairs at phr.studentaffairs@austin.utexas.edu.

Accessibility

The pathways from Lot 40 and the building housing the Lady Bird Johnson (LBJ) Auditorium and Bass Lecture Hall are paved. Entrances to all venues are ramp accessible. Elevators are available in the building. Accessible seating in both the LBJ Auditorium and the Bass Lecture Hall is limited and available on a first-come, first-seated basis.

Students are asked to notify the Office of Student Affairs in advance if they or any of their guests require accessibility and/or mobility assistance. Contact: phr.studentaffairs@austin.utexas.edu.

While every effort will be made, we may be unable to fulfill every accommodation request, particularly those not conveyed in advance to the Office of Student Affairs. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Personal Items

Students should not bring personal items (purses, bags) to the ceremony as they cannot be left in the prep/green room(s), and there is no area to secure them during the ceremony. It is recommended that students carry cell phones and keys on a wristlet or in clothing with pockets.

Food and beverages are prohibited inside the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium. Guests may bring purses/bags (there is no clear bag policy in the auditorium) and flower bouquets into the auditorium. Please refrain from bringing noise makers, balloons, banners, confetti/glitter, glass flower vases, and flammable materials into the auditorium.

Event Photography and Recording

Before the ceremony, individual headshots will be taken of each student while wearing their white coat. These photos will be taken by Flash Photography, a professional photography company that the University partners with. Students may order these photos directly from Flash Photography after the ceremony.

The entire ceremony will be recorded by the University. That recording will be shared with students within a few weeks of the ceremony.

Guests are allowed to take pictures and record during the ceremony from their seats.
