UT College of Pharmacy Continues Partnership with UT Health San Antonio to Help Win $46 Million in New NIH Grants

UT Health San Antonio and seven regional partners and collaborators, including The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, will leverage $46 million from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) over the next five to seven years to translate scientific discoveries into therapeutic benefits for human health and well-being. The funding is being provided through NIH's National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS).

Dr. Lee is This Year's Graduate Teaching & Mentoring Award Winner

Congratulations to Dr. Grace Lee, Pharm.D., Ph.D., faculty member and Translational Science Ph.D. (TS Ph.D.) Program alum, who is this year’s Graduate Teaching & Mentoring Award Winner.  The UT Pharmacy Graduate Student Association selects one faculty member each year for for this honor, based on their outstanding mentorship and academic service to students.

The University of Texas at Austin continues its outstanding reputation in Texas and the world.  UT is ranked No. 1 in Texas, the No. 9 public university in the U.S., and No. 43 in the world in the most recent rankings from U.S. News and World Report.  UT Austin is the only Texas university that ranks in the top 100 schools on the list.

Over-the-Counter Naloxone and Nonprescription Syringe Availability in Community Pharmacies

Dr. Lindsey Loera from the UT Austin College of Pharmacy's PhARM Program and Dr. Lucas Hill contributed to a new study, "Over-the-Counter Naloxone and Nonprescription Syringe Availability in Community Pharmacies," published in JAMA Network Open. Five P4 student pharmacists audited all 125 Austin, Texas pharmacies to find OTC naloxone and attempt to purchase a 10-pack of syringes.

In a conversation with Drug Topics, Nina Vadiei, Pharm.D., BCPP, clinical associate professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Sciences (PTSCI) at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacy specialist in psychiatry at the San Antonio State Hospital discussed some of the challenges she faces working with forensic patients who have been charged with a crime and have severe mental illness.

The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy’s Division of Pharmacotherapy in San Antonio is undergoing a significant transformation. Effective September 1, 2024, the group will become the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Sciences (PTSCI) to better reflect its tremendous growth, expansion and strategic collaborations over the past decade. The PTSCI Division will pursue its mission to educate and train the future leaders of pharmacotherapy and translational science, engage in innovative research and provide exemplary patient care.
