2020 Wm. Arlyn Kloesel Preceptor of the Year Award

Dr. Kristin Janzen, 2020 Wm. Arlyn Kloesel Preceptor of the Year

Kristin Janzen earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 2015.  During her tenure at the college, she was active in student organizations and served as president of Pharmacy Council.  She completed a combined PGY1 and PGY2 residency at Indiana University Health & Butler University, after which time she worked as a clinical pharmacy specialist in internal medicine at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, and an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  She currently serves as clinical assistant professor at the UT Austin College of Pharmacy, and a clinical pharmacy specialist in internal medicine at Dell Seton Medical Center.

Students have said about Dr. Janzen:

"She genuinely cares for her patients and what she does for patients goes beyond her duties as a clinical pharmacist. Dr. Janzen is also extremely committed to UTCOP students. She is not only faculty, but she is always finding ways to help students with residency applications and even provides mock interviews. She has also been an incredible preceptor. I felt like every time I interacted with her, I learned something new. She always provided me with guidance, challenged me and increased my overall clinical knowledge. Although my rotation was different due to the current pandemic, Dr. Janzen's flexibility and enthusiasm allowed us to make the most of this rotation."

"Dr. Janzen is hands down the best preceptor I've had this year. It's funny the way things work out--I was originally supposed to be at a different hospital, but things had to be shuffled around because of the coronavirus pandemic. I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Janzen. She has done an incredible job of turning this into a worthwhile experience. You can tell that she loves teaching, and she explains concepts in a way that makes it so easy to understand."

"Dr. Janzen is always striving to be the best version of herself and she encourages her students to do the same."

"I gained so much confidence on this rotation. I would have never been able to grow so much if it wasn't for Kristin's support and encouragement. I never felt discouraged to ask Kristin questions or suggest patient treatment plans. I hope to be as great of a preceptor as Kristin has been to future pharmacy students."

Congratulations to Dr. Kristin Janzen on receiving the Wm. Arlyn Klosel Preceptor of the Year award for 2020!

The Master Preceptor Recognition Program was inaugurated in 2014 by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Nominees must have served a minimum of ten years as a preceptor for the nominating college of pharmacy.

Dr. Todd Canada, was one of seven preceptors selected from across the nation to receive this national award.  Canada is also a recipient of the 2004 Kloesel Preceptor of the Year Award, and has served previously as regional director and currently as a coordinator for the Galveston/Houston regional experiential program.
