Methodist Hospital opened in 1963 as the first hospital in the now internationally acclaimed South Texas Medical Center. Our hospital has deep-rooted traditions of patient-focused care, faith-based philosophies, and hiring staff that genuinely care for the well-being of others. As an organization, Methodist hospital promises to provide the patient the highest quality of service and treatment as we strive to carry out the mission of Methodist Healthcare: Serving Humanity to Honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective health care accessible to all.

The Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital’s PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is an ASHP-accredited one-year training program which aims to graduate excellent pharmacy practitioners prepared to engage in patient care positions or PGY2 training. Residents of our program will have the opportunity to receive training in infectious disease, internal medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, solid organ transplant, pediatrics, psychotherapy, bone marrow transplant, investigational drug services, and practice management.  In addition, Methodist Hospital is a primary ECMO and LVAD center and boasts and increasingly active BMT program.

Our PGY1 residency program provides the opportunity to professionally develop through formulary reviews, medication use evaluations, journal clubs, patient case presentations, continuing education seminars, research projects, and precepting.  The Methodist residency program is also affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.  Residents participate in the UT Health Friday learning seminars and pharmacotherapy resident rounds.  A teaching certificate is available through UT and is required for residency completion.
